Lower prices increased customer numbers and volume
The volume of HOK-Elanto's grocery business grew during the first half-year by about one per cent, but the lower prices reduced net grocery sales by 0.4 per cent. Rigorous cost control and particularly measures to develop the non-food goods trade led to an improved Group operating profit compared to the previous year.
16.10.2013: Shopping Centre Kaari opens 17 October
The building project lasting many years is finally finished! Shopping Centre Kaari is complete and opens its doors in Kannelmäki on Thursday 17 October.
Kaari is HOK-Elanto's biggest project both in financial terms and measured in square metres. Kaari is Finland's ninth and Greater Helsinki's fifth largest shopping centre, and it could hold eight full-size football pitches.

The development of HOK-Elanto's sales at group level for the first half-year 2013 shows very moderate growth of 2.3 per cent. The grocery sales have continued in positive growth, but the non-food sales also reflect the general economic trends in the Greater Helsinki area and consumer caution.

Kaari will be the ninth largest shopping centre in Finland. It is situated in a central position between the Kehä I Inner Ring Road and Hämeenlinnanväylä or Highway 3. About 205,000 people live within a five-kilometre radius, and Kannelmäki is a busy hub of commuter traffic in the Greater Helsinki area.

21.2.2013: HOK-Elanto Financial statement 2012: Co-op membership is worthwhile
HOK-Elanto has almost 580,000 member households in the Greater Helsinki area, all able to make use of the services and benefits of their own cooperative society. By a one-off investment of the EUR 35 cooperative contribution, the member receives an annual return as interest on cooperative capital as well as a monthly Bonus payment by way of a refund on the services used. Last year, these benefits alone averaged EUR 143 per household. Every month, more than 2,000 people realise this advantage and join the cooperative society as members.
14.2.2012 HOK-Elanto looks after its employees
Helsinki Cooperative Society Elanto's sales for 2011 clearly exceeded the limit of EUR 2 billion, growing to EUR 2,130 million. Therefore, the net sales of the entire Group totalled EUR 1,780 million (prev. year EUR 1,668 mill.), an increase of 6.7 per cent (4.5%). During the year, we opened and expanded both large and smaller units, but we also had to close a few large outlets. We were able to relocate the employees of these units in our own places of business.
