S Group's sales increased: "Consumer goods trade exceeded expectations"

"Consumer goods sales exceeded our expectations, growing markedly in Finland, particularly in the Prisma stores. Sales in our department stores increased as well. The favourable development of the consumer goods trade may indicate that consumer trust is continuing to grow stronger," says Taavi Heikkilä, CEO of SOK.  

S Group's consumer goods sales in Finland increased by 2.4% and stood at EUR 848 million. Grocery sales in Finland increased by 3.9% and stood at EUR 5,049 million.

"We fared much better than the other operators in the grocery trade. The favourable image of our price levels has boosted sales," says Heikkilä.

Considering the general economic situation, sales in S Group's other business operations developed favourably. The lower prices of fuels, as well as deregulated opening hours, continued to affect sales at ABC service stations. Sales in S Group's restaurants decreased due to the reduced network of locations. However, comparable sales for the travel industry and hospitality business increased.

S Group's retail sales excluding taxes increased by 1.8% in January–September 2016 and stood at EUR 8,150 million. Sales developed particularly favourably for the grocery trade, with consumer goods sales also at a good level.
