FAQ - Grocery Basket Comparison

  • A grocery basket comparison compares the price levels of two different stores. You can choose two stores that are relevant to you and compare the prices of your grocery shopping between them. The service includes purchases made by the user over the past 12 months, so the comparison is made between products that the customer actually buys and needs.

The grocery basket comparison is always done with current and up-to-date price information, which is no more than two days old. The comparability of prices is ensured by having the price information of the products being compared from both stores on the same day. The price levels are fetched from online stores, but the situation is not real-time; they are updated daily. The comparison can be made between S Group stores and K Group stores, as up-to-date information is available from their websites.

Not all purchases are available in the same form from the store, so the grocery basket comparison transparently shows what proportion of the purchases are comparable. The grocery basket comparison provides an indicative estimate of all purchases, including comparable prices, and shows the estimated savings for products that were not directly comparable.

  • For the customer, comparing regular-priced products is the simplest way to get a fair comparison.

The grocery basket comparison includes promotional products that are available to all customers, even without a loyalty card. However, it does not include bulk discounts or discounts tied to loyalty programs. For example, offers like “5 products for 2 euros” are not included, as the comparison looks only at the price of individual products. The comparison also does not consider benefits from loyalty programs (such as Bonus or Plussa) or special loyalty offers.

The service collects price information from the internet, so it cannot include store-specific offers found in physical stores. Discounts can change daily, and different stores offer different types of discounts, which makes it hard to compare them in the same way. Therefore, the comparison uses list prices for the most accurate results.

The S Group focuses on offering permanently low prices, with Bonuses on top. Permanently low prices are a key part of our business and a benefit for customers. Other stores may have different benefit programs.

  • Currently, we have included all price information and stores that are openly available online. However, this is not yet possible for all stores. We can only compare S Group and K Group stores, which have price information publicly available online.

The grocery basket comparison becomes more meaningful as the number of products that can be compared increases.

The service aims to compare all the purchases a user has made in the past 12 months. However, not all products will have comparable items from other stores with up-to-date prices.

Not all purchases are available in other stores in the same way, so the grocery basket comparison transparently shows what percentage of the purchases are comparable and provides an estimated simulated total for all purchases.

The grocery basket comparison lists products in order of the greatest price difference.

To ensure transparency and honesty, only truly comparable products are included. The service only shows products that can be compared with each other, available in both stores.

For example, fruits, vegetables, and products from the deli counter typically have their own unique EAN codes, which are often store-specific. As a result, the comparability between deli counter or fresh produce products is not as comprehensive as it is for packaged dry goods.

HOW YOUR DATA IS USED

Every time you make a purchase, customer data is generated. It's completely normal to ask how companies use that information and who benefits from it.

At the cooperative, the answer is simple. Customer data belongs to the co-op members and is used only for their benefit, such as providing useful information about their own purchases.
