S Group consists of 21 regional cooperatives and 8 local cooperatives. The regional cooperative structure was established in the 1980s, when smaller locally operating cooperatives merged into a single larger regional cooperative. The cooperatives are independent companies with their own management.
In S Group, business operations are mostly conducted by the cooperatives. The cooperatives produce services for their members – in other words, for co-op members. The cooperative network covers the whole of Finland. The cooperatives are important local employers, and their local goods and service procurements are regionally significant.
