The roots of cooperative activities are in the 1840s Great Britain. In Finland, cooperative activities landed over a hundred years ago.In the course of those years, cooperatives and their central firm SOK Corporation grew into a reliable cooperative corporate group within the Finnish society, S Group.

Cooperatives were founded with the purpose of responding to consumer needs: people wanted to buy quality products at affordable prices. The goals of cooperatives still remain the same:providing useful products and services to customers easily and inexpensively.

The central mission of regional cooperatives has always been to work for the benefit of customers.Reliability, communal approach, regionality, active development of operations and bringing decision-making and service production near co-op members are especially fitting principles for S Group also at present.Even today, the nature of cooperative activities involves committed customers and the Bonus purchase reward distributed from the business profit based on the amount of services that each co-op member uses.
